Rut #2 - Andy Morrison - To Dew or Not to Dew

Over the weekend my and my old mission companion drove back to San Jose—where we had served our missions speaking Vietnamese. The daughter of the branch president (we served in the same branch for the whole 2 years) was marrying the Sunday School President in the Oakland temple. I can't even begin to stress how huge of a deal this is.

On this trip I did many new things. We drove all night to get there, which I had never done. I had like 50 meals in 48 hours. I wore a newspaper paper Vietnamese hat around the streets of San Jose. I played Mafia with around 20 of the branch members at like midnight on top of a hill overlooking the city.

But for my out of the rut new thing I chose the hardest most strangest thing I've ever ever done ever. I have gone off Mountain Dew. Let me clarify something here: I am a total Mountain Dew addict. Like not just the occasional Dew with dinner or on the holidays—this is a heavy duty full blown case of Dew-aholic-ism. I drank tons of Dew on way up—I needed to be awake enough to drive and not kill everyone in the car and finally while driving through the lonely deserts of Nevada (o Nevada, what can't you do) I finally decided to never drink Mountain Dew again—well at least for a while.

If I could explain the feelings that came with throwing perfectly good cans of Code Red into a garbage can I would, but the pain that tore through my soul is too deep and profound to relate. Just be assured that now after 27 hours of withdrawal I have discovered a new pain I never knew existed.

So if over the next week or two I seem bitter, unimaginably sleepy, or 'accidentally' run you or a love one over while I fall asleep in my car—don't take it personally.
