Find it.

This post is all about one of my very favorite magazines, Cereal. It is a travel and lifestyle magazine that is based out of Bristol, UK. The magazine also has a website. Both mediums, the website and the magazine, are beautifully and simplistically designed. The design is very clean which enables the photography to be even more powerful. It is also really neat to see the amazing collaboration of many talented artists from around the world.

Check out the website here! http://readcereal.com/

Here is one of my favorite covers from an issue:

http://www.gardenideaspicture.us/2013/09/unusual-garden-ideas.html

During my random travels of the internet this week, I became uncommonly interested in crazy things people do with their gardens, and some people get really clever with it. This website is just one of many I spent time with. The best thing to do is just Google image search for any variation of the words "weird gardens".

What I loved about it was that everything was a new a creative twist on the same basic thing- we have green stuff that comes out of brown stuff. People took that simple concept and pushed it in every direction imaginable, and then some. It goes to show how even after hundreds of years of gardening, people can still find new ways to express it.

Find It - Garry Winogrand

I got introduced to photographer Garry Winogrand's work just last Thursday during an assignment for VASTU 101, so naturally, this video and accompanying article caught my eye this morning.

http://www.dpreview.com/news/2014/03/16/behind-the-scenes-garry-winogrand-at-work?utm_campaign=internal-link&utm_source=news-list&utm_medium=text&ref=title_0_0

Street photography (though Winogrand himself hated the term) has always terrified me a little as an amateur photographer, so I've never really gotten into it. It's even illegal in a few places, so I might even be justified. Still, there's great stories outside where people are found, and if you're willing to chase it down and look like a bit of an oddball, you can get great pictures while everyone else gets the same, boring, predictable postcard shots.

Find It- Tom Blackham

Here's a screenshot of the website I found online. It's called Barry Martin's Hopalong Orbit Visualizer. It's really cool. It's like an ever-going screen saver where you feel like you're going through space. As you move you mouse, though, the objects that fly past you actually change directions.

Here's the Link:

I think this is inspiring and creative because it takes something that people love (bacon, and waking up to the smell of it) and portraying it in an interesting way. I like the use of film to give of a certain sentiment and style.

The website neave.com has a lot of interesting and creative things. Its fun to just go and explore.

One in particular is a collection of "Lonely Tweets". I think collecting all the tweets in which people say they are lonely is a creative way of commenting on how social media makes us more connecting and yet we can still feel so isolated. Its very interesting.

Pretty cool thing!

41 coolest night lights EVER. -Ariana Keith

So when I was younger I had a night light. Hey. I hated the dark. The makers of night lights these days are getting crafty though. Reallll crafty. See some of the coolest, most creative night lights. EVER. Some of them will blow your mind. This one was definitely my favourite.
So. It's a tiny mouse house built in the base board!!!! And it lights up!!!! Next level creativity. Every child's dream.

Finding it.

I was looking at one of my favorite music blogs and found this really cool cover of Michael Jackson's Stranger in Moscow. Im somewhat obsessed with the band that did it already, so I was really excited. I personally love covers of classic songs. I think it's always super interesting to see what different groups do with different songs and how they interpret the noise they hear to create their own sound.
Hope y'all like it!

This little video talks about how the Oscars rebranded this year.  I thought it was neat because I have always thought of the Oscars as an event that takes place once a year, not something that would need to be branded like a company.  Lately I have been fascinated by logo concepts and brand management.  It blows my mind how so much thought goes into every little detail of a companies appearance.

I think this ad is so clever! It is easily understood but the concept is so good.  This is now easily one of my favorite ads.

Find it (elaborate paper dresses)

Okay, so I'm super impressed. This little girl and her mom make dresses out of paper. They started simple but now it's evolved. They make original designs but they also make the dresses from the red carpet, Project Runway, etc. What's even more impressive is the 4-year-old does a lot of the work. I would strongly suggest reading the article and checking out the other photos. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/26/4-year-old-paper-dresses-fashion-by-mayhem_n_4855545.html

I thought this was pretty neat! This guy has figured out how to submerge this record player and still get almost flawless sound! Here is the link to the video. http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2014/02/submerged-turntable-by-evan-holm/

These websites are home to the art of my friend Susanna Avila. She is inspired to draw stills of because she grew up trying to fit the stereotype of what a woman should look like, and now she has learned to accept her beautiful curvyness. She loves food and show what she loves through art.

This is a sweet marketing stunt by Redbull. The first video shows what college students see when they show up to campus one morning. They find a large crate of Redbull that looks like it has been dropped from a plane on their campus. The second video shows the video that is made by Redbull to grow online buzz about the marketing ploy. Creative way to getting people talking about their product. They don't really drop the crates from the helicopters but make it look like that is the story.

I think this packaging design is pretty much awesome. Clever way to show the different types of meat!

So true, I wish I would've thought of it!!!

Find it 2

Perfect timing. Here's a sweet Swedish ad for a hair product. Whenever the subway trains come into the station, the billboard simulates the wind of the incoming trains. Simple, but awesome.

For my FindIt this week, I found the best ad of 2013, check it out:

Project Sunlight

I think that the best ads are those that inspire us to support a cause, or buy a product.  I can't think of an ad more inspiring than this one.  (....Ok, maybe P & G's Thank You mom commercials)  Seriously, this campaign is brilliant.

So I found this to be quite interesting. This group is called Above and Beyond, and their specialty is in electronic music. I'm not the biggest fan of electronic/house music, but I thought that these guys did something pretty cool. They took a lot of their music and turned it into a symphony and did an "acoustic" version of everything. I found it creative because they tried a different medium to convey their message. This video is a bit long, but it is a good listen.

An amazingly simple and effective movie poster for an amazing film. If you haven't seen this film I recommend doing so!

So I found this ad for legos and I thought it was so clever and creative.  The play off words or bricks/stones is so fun but still gets across the message of imagination.  I really like this ad.

4,400 square feet of never ending desk

The Barbarian Group just got a revamped by creating one single desk that flows throughout their entire office. Their new 'superdesk' is a total 4,400 square feet. The agency created the new desk with the goal of creating more collaboration. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Here is a video showing the new desk.

Street art always amazes me. As I was looking at all the different street art I seemed to be finding a lot of the same thing: brilliant artists painting on walls or streets. This seemed like an out of the box thinker who turned something everyone would walk by into something really cute.
I really need to start looking at the world around me and start spotting new things.

Check out this ad by Coca-Cola. I think it really encompasses a lot of emotion. It has such a fun lighthearted message but is done in such a clever way!

I sort of like Batman(and "sort of" may be a bit of an understatement) So when I saw this I thought two things:

I absolutely need to buy this phone case no matter what it costs!!!!
and
I should probably get an iphone that I could use it with.

Seriously, though, it's awesome! It has retractable wheels and an LED light that flashes the bat symbol on a flat surface. I mean, who doesn't want something like this??

Nothing really needs to be said here. Just the combining of two great movies into one concept.

I found a series of fantastic sleeping situations and this is my favorite. On the top of the list as well was a sleeping bag made of snuggling grapes.

Sorry the images aren't very big. I found these images online today and thought they were really cool and creative. I've been to the beach and tried to make a sand castle but I could never get it to be more than just a really big pile of sand. I'm impressed by the skill it took to make these as well as the creativity involved in conceptualizing some of the more complex ones. I find the one that's third from the bottom to be especially creative and original in its design.

Find It 2 - Lance McDowell

I found this series of shoes that an artist created for each of his 12 ex-lovers. They are exquisitely designed and each tell about the personality of the ex-lover. The gold one is designed for the girl that was a gold digger. The one that looks like a splash is for a girl that was always crying. I'll post the link so you can look at more shoes, but I wouldn't recommend reading the descriptions. Sometimes he describes the intimate details of their lives in a very vulgar way. But I like the shoes.

http://www.tickld.com/x/this-ladys-cat-went-missing-but-when-she-asked-for-helpthis-happened

So I think this is one of the funniest things I've ever read, and it shows a lot of creativity by this graphic designer in making it so funny. Granted, he kinda sounds like a tool from start to finish, but I like to think there's some back story between these two that makes their behavior a little more permissible.

Anyways, I couldn't stop laughing and every step of the story made it funnier as the guy thought of every way he could to make a terrible "Lost Cat" poster.
