Tanner Ham: Museum Visit

As I first entered to Suburbia exhibit I found it very interesting the the photographer/author talked about the photos as if the pictures were taken of him or his close family. I had to study out the people in each image across the first wall to see if they were the same people. I like that he placed himself in the group that he was photographing.

What I thought made these pieces creative and unique was the actually subject that you was shooting. I do not have a vast knowledge of famous photography, but I have never seen pictures of suburbia in the 70's and I thought everything from the outfits to the carpet in the homes was very interesting.

I believe that Bill Owens came up with the idea of photographing on this subject after seeing the excitement that seemed to feel the neighborhoods. Each subject seemed for the the most part to be in a very enjoyable place in their lives. They seemed lively and the subjects themselves seemed very creative.

  3. I also feel that in each photo, the subjects seemed to be content, but i think the captions helped enforce that idea. Who knows what they were really thinking!

  4. I love the pictures with the garage. It's interesting to see the clothes from the 70's but I thought it was even cooler to see the scooters and the boat from the 70's.
