HAROSHI | SKATEBOARD ART
This artist uses old skateboard decks to create sculptures, such as the one in this post. While the sculpture itself is pretty dope, it is more credible as a creative art piece based on the fact that it is "created" uniquely. It incorporates parts of what really makes something meaningful for the artist, which, in turn, correlates to how meaningful the piece is to an audience. The artist uses skate decks (obviously something he cares about, enjoys, uses, has cried over, shed blood on, etc.), to create a piece that is both dynamic and yet just a normal object- a hand. I think this embodies exactly what we try to achieve in design and in art- a different perspective on something we see everyday. A chance for people to stop and observe something they normally find mundane, or don't find at all.
That is so cool! I love what you said about using art to show the beauty in everyday. And that hand is sweeeet :D
ReplyDeleteIt is so cool that the artist left one end broken and jagged. It looks like these could be old decks that he has actually ridden and broken.
ReplyDeleteI never would have looked at a skateboard and thought, this would be great also as a sculpture of a hand! This is why art is so great!
ReplyDeleteI like this. It is fun to just look at and think of the story behind all of the skateboards. I hope they were ridden by people that would make it so much better.
ReplyDeletewoah. that just really caught my eye. I agree Summa.
