So . . . I must have missed the memo on this one so it's pretty late but I learned a lot from this opportunity. I learned from reading everyone else's material that those who had a spouse or some strong emotional connection made the strongest songs which I could envision in my head. So, I turned down a dark road which I don't travel often to create an emotional connection. I started writing lyrics and over the process of two days they meshed into the following. I also realized the same song kept coming into my head as I was writing. SO . . . Turn on Jimmy Eats World "Hear You Me" and see if you can match the words with the song.
WISHING
Like reels from an old movie
Asphalt courts and metal rims
Rubber through net and a grin
That is where our friendship begins
We grew like weeds, TPed trees
Drove way too fast in test drive cars
Worked out for hours to see
If girls would like you and me
But now I’m here alone
Longing for those days
Wishing for those hours, more time to share
Wishing I had my best friend
Three years had passed since then
Hate that I’m seeing you this way
Not a whisper of life in your limbs
Why did God take you before your time?
Cuz now I’m here alone
Longing for those days
Wishing for those hours, more time to share
Wishing I had my best friend
Can you see from heaven’s heights?
I’m here by your fiancés side
Tears spilt for your perfect life
Wishing, wanting you to live
Cuz now we’re here alone
Longing for those days
Wishing for those hours, more time to share
Wishing we had our best friend
What did you think? What did you feel? I learned that for optimal creativity one must take time, must think about it constantly, and must invest their inner-most selves into the project. I hope this communicated some strong feelings for you. I'll comment later to tell you the event which inspired the song.
My best friend died on June 23, 2009 in a freak drowning accident in the Snake River near Rexburg, Idaho. He was engaged to be married on August 22, 2009. His fiance couldn't swim to him fast enough and he was sucked under the water. She watched him drown.
