April Baker Rut #5

I'm sorry to disapont you all, but my song is not deep by any streach of the imagination. I now realize something that I always thought before might be true. I will never be a song writer. Pulling out the deep emotions of my heart and putting them to catchy music just feels silly to me. So, I present you with a silly song. I image it's the kind of thing that Fezzic, Inigo Montoya, Dr. Seuss and I would make up on our way from Whovill to Gilder.

I don’t know how to write a song
I’m worried that I’ll do it wrong
Do all of my words have to rhyme?
Or is that only poetry?
Do the words have to flow?
And if they are how do I know?

Chorus:

This is my terrible song
It’s really not very long
Why am I making it rhyme?
I think that most songs don’t
So this one… wont?

How many stanzas should it be?
Is there some kind of format I can view for free?
What should a good song be about?
Love? Pain? Your dog dying at your wedding to your cousin in the back yard of your drunk uncle?

Chorus:

This is my somewhat strange song
It’s starting to get kind of long
Why am I making it rhyme?
I think that most songs don’t
So this one… wont?

Is anything put to music a song?
I’d need a really good composer for this on to be strong.
Wow this is bad, no question about that
On this train wreck I’d better put a cap
I guess it’s a country since it’s kind of bad
Although more mentions of my cousins I probably should add

Chorus:

This is my terrible song
It now is quite to long
Why am I making it rhyme?
I think that most songs don’t
So this one… wont?

Cousins, cousins, cousin,
Uncles, America, beer
tractors, shotguns, dogs
Weddings all year long
Now this is a country song!

Chorus:

This is my terrible song
It’s gone on far too long

This is my terrible song
It’s gone on far too long

  1. I like the way it really does feel like Dr. Seuss stuff.

  2. Wow, way to get carried away. ;)
I agree with Kevin, there's definitely a Shel Silverstein/Dr.Seuss vibe.
I love that we get to hear your thoughts, especially the part where you wonder whether you should rhyme, and you say that you think most songs don't.
