So this is an ad for the upcoming Pixar movie Monsters University that played during the Notre Dame-Alabama game last night. I thought it was clever because it is a perfect spoof of the stereotypical college ads that always play during college football games. Check out the video of the ad here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THhRSJC5FX8
They also made a website at monstersuniversity.com/edu. I wasted a good chunk of time on it last night; it is made to look just like a college website with sections about admissions and athletics, and "research articles" about if students that have 2 heads perform better than those that have one. I thought it was a super clever way to advertise their new movie in a non-traditional way.
That's one of the things I love about Pixar. All they have to do is take something ordinary and put it into a world that is distant to us, and it becomes creative. For some reason applying human characteristics to animals, monsters, cars, etc. just works really, really well. It takes it out of context just enough to be foreign, but still carries a touch of the familiar.
ReplyDeleteI concur. Pixar takes something everyday and ordinary and just spices it up....it makes it funny and cute. I think that anything by Pixar becomes clever because it is animated.
ReplyDeleteI love that. Most of those cheesy commercials for universities make me gag so I thought this was really funny! It seems like a regular way to advertise for a movie with something to do with college, by talking about the campus and the experience students can have while there, but Pixar of course, makes it really cool and creative. Given, it is an animated movie about monsters at college.
ReplyDeleteThat was fantastic. Totally cheesy, but perfect. They could have gone many directions with the idea of MU, but I like that they did a spoof on actual college commercials, the fact that it was aired during a college game makes it that much better. Because lets face it, it will be us college kids who remember when Monsters Inc. first cam out that are going to go see Monsters University
ReplyDeleteSO GOOD. Pixar could have just mashed together the most funny and exciting clips from their movie for their ad. Instead, they came up with totally new material. Gotta hand it to them.
ReplyDeleteI love Pixar. Everything they do is always epic.
