Well the Museum of London has now made it possible for you to take your own historical tours through a new augmented reality application. That’s right kids, your iphone can serve as a literal window to the past. With the Streetmuseum application you can select a destination from the museums London map, hold the camera up to the present day street scene and VOILA—you suddenly see the same location through a historical set of eyes. I’m not a history buff, but I found this little number to be pretty cool. I mean, how much cooler would your trips to the state capitol in grade school have been—had we had this app?! Wave hello to the future of historical city tours! -Summer Holm
That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. HOLY history!!
ReplyDeleteI love the innovative ways technology is being integrated into EVERYTHING! This really makes history come alive. Not Night at the Museum live, but still really really cool. I think it's a great way to connect the present to the past.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. It'd be even sweeter if you could choose what year, and start integrating video. I mean, we have a ton of cameras everywhere around national monuments.
ReplyDeleteI love the juxtaposition of old and new in these ads. I would love to see this in real life.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the White Stripes music video for their song "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground."
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! Imagine 100 years from now--we will have so much footage by then. You could watch history progress through your phone wherever you are.
