I'm obsessed with skateboarding. I love the sport; I love the industry; I will always follow it. For a long time I've been wanting to build my own obstacle for skateboarding. I used to have a rail in high school that I would practice tricks on everyday after school. It was the perfect obstacle for learning new tricks. The rail cost me $120. Someone stole that rail while I was on my mission and I was devastated. After my mission I got a new rail around the same price so I could re-learn all my old tricks. But, I had that rail for 6 months before it got stolen too. So, I've encountered some bad luck. I've really missed having my own rail. It's fun to go out to skatepark and just flow, but for me I have the most fun skating in the pressure-less backyard.
Recently I got married and I've acquired some DIY skills that I was lacking before. I've wanted to get a new rail for a while, but I know my wife would flip if I threw down some serious cashola on a rail so I decided to take this "do something you've never done before assignment" to build my own skate obstacle. I drew up some plans, went to Home Depot, and made my dreams come true for $40.

What I learned about myself...
- It's always more fun for me to do it myself.
- I never feel bad buying raw materials.
- I used to be better at skateboarding.
- Sometimes I take shortcuts on my work because I can't be bothered to drive back to the store (usually my shortcuts work).
Dude, I love this!
ReplyDeleteYou need to make some kind of rail lock or add some unsuspecting nails to keep this one from being stolen too!
This is awesome!! I'm so impressed with your skillz :) Way to take control!
ReplyDeleteThat's way sweet. My brother built a rail like this when he was in high school but yours looks much more stable ha
ReplyDeleteWe should do business together
