#1 Museum Visit -- Marie Lewis

I couldn't go to the Museum any other time, so I went right after wasn't really sure what to expect, so I was pleasantly surprised--at first.

I started off by venturing into the Suburbia show, just perusing the pictures. Some had refrigerators and empty rooms, but most just had people enjoying each other. One of the wall posters talked about how suburbia is often depicted as a breeding ground for unhappiness, and how that wasn't true. Suburbia, often a place for people to "just get by", was much more than that. It was a place where people made their house a home. It was nice to see someone tell that story from the other perspective. It doesn't often happen. And that's creativity.

My favorite were the pieces that included two pictures--one depicting an empty room, and the other depicting a much less empty space. I liked the use of contrast. AND, I thought it was very fitting how the room fit that same message. It was very empty, with a few couches interspersed. Almost as if it was one of those suburban homes.

Then came the less pleasant surprise. The Electronic Media Gallery. That was something else. I can't say that I really enjoyed it apart from the humming (in the first video). It reminded me of "The Three Amigos"--which I like. The concept was interesting. It held that same feeling, from the suburbia exhibit, of longing for something more, something different. I think we all feel that way. So it was a really ingenious way to connect with the audience.

  2. That picture was really cool :)

I looked up more information about the Electronic Media Gallery and it said that the art form developed during the social turmoil of the 60s. So I think that feeling you described makes perfect sense.
